Current Sports: Everything You Need To Be A Tennessee Titans Fan

Nashville’s got Titans fever, and you can feel it everywhere you go. Maybe you’ve been curious about the Tennessee Titans, or maybe you’ve been to games, but haven’t fully committed to fandom just yet. Or maybe, you’re new to Nashville and ready to dive into the team spirit. Whatever brings you here, we’ll make sure you leave a true Titans fan.

Here’s everything you need to be a Tennessee Titans Fan. But first, a little background on the team’s origin story.

Titans History

Did you know our beloved Titans used to be the Houston Oilers?

Franchise Owner-President K.S. “Bud” Adams Jr. was one of the founding fathers of the American Football League in 1959. Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon from Louisiana State was the first big-name signing of both the Oilers and the AFL. The Oilers were the AFL’s first champions, winning back-to-back titles in 1960 and 1961.

Titans fans just recently celebrated Oilers Tribute Week, where Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk led the franchise is posthumously adding former Oilers head coach O.A. “Bum” Phillips to the Ring of Honor at Nissan Stadium. Phillips was the personification of the “Luv Ya Blue Era’ as the head coach of the Oilers for six seasons. He owns the best winning percentage by a Titans/Oilers head coach who has coached at least two full seasons, totaling a 59-38 mark.

If you’re a Titans fan, you’ve got to know the Oilers legends.

We’re Loyal

First and foremost, Tennessee Titans fans are loyal. Despite quite a bit of suffering throughout history, a recent study by MIBets.com found that Titans fans are among the “least whiny fans in the NFL.”

If you’re a true fan, show up with pride every game day, and don’t let the setbacks get to you. However, there is one thing you can complain about—that is, if you’re a true fan.

The biggest complaint Titans fans have? Bad officiating. The next time the ref gets you flustered, join your fellow fans in frustration.

Dress Blue Or Leave The Crew

With Titans mascot T-Rac zip-lining from the top of Nissan Stadium and the Blue Crew Drumline making it LOUD, you can’t not get into spirit when you arrive at the home of the Titans. But whatever you do, don’t dare show up without your blue.

Rally The Crowd

First down, time to chant.

One fan depicts it perfectly, “it’s ‘Oooo, Oooo, Oooo!’ I love it. It sounds big and mean, and it’s really easy to get the crowd in on it. It’s simple and sounds great even if everyone isn’t lined up perfectly.”

The chant is derived from the epic movie 300. Chilling to the bone, “Oooo, Oooo, Oooo” is declared by the crowd in Nissan Stadium on every first down.
